End of First Week

It has been a whirlwind week of operating, administrative meetings, and relationship building. Started off with several very challenging and major cardiac procedures, such as Ascending Thoracic Aneurysm and Aortic valve replacement, complex mitral valve repairs as well as the “bread and butter” – Coronary Artery Bypass operations. It is always a hurdle to overcome the initial communication and instrumentation barrier, however the Chinese are so wonderfully patient, and very quick to fill in where I am insufficient due to communication issues. Most speak or understand English very well. I only wish I had been more diligent at learning their language when I started coming 26 years ago.
I have attached a few photos of my “pinning” (receiving my name badge) and signing ceremony.

Now and official staff member

Last night Becki and I had dinner, hosted for us by the Vice Mayor of Nanjing and the new Minister of Health. We are available to assist with the Medical needs in Nanjing, in any way possible. Next week, I start two half day clinics at Nanjing First Hospital Main Campus and also at the new West Campus, which will be the site of the new Heart Hospital. More to come later!
